The Founder-Acharya
Born on September 1, 1896, in Calcutta (now Kolkata), India, Abhay Charan De — who would later become universally known as Srila Prabhupada — was one of the most remarkable spiritual teachers of the 20th century. From early childhood, he displayed deep devotion to Lord Krishna, organising festivals and leading kirtans in his neighbourhood even as a young boy.
After completing his studies at Scottish Church College, Calcutta, he became a chemist and businessman. In 1922, a fateful meeting with his spiritual master, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, changed the entire course of his life. His guru instructed him to spread the message of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu in the English language to the Western world.
He took that instruction to heart. For decades he prepared — writing, translating, building the philosophical and literary foundation. Then, in 1965, at the age of 69 years, he boarded a cargo ship with only forty rupees in his pocket and sailed alone to New York City.
What followed was nothing short of miraculous. Within just twelve years — until his departure from this world in November 1977 — Srila Prabhupada:
Established the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in 1966 in New York City.
Founded 108 temples and ashrams on six continents, from New York to London to Mumbai to Sydney.
Authored more than 70 volumes of Vedic literature — including the celebrated Bhagavad-gita As It Is and the multi-volume Srimad-Bhagavatam.
Initiated thousands of disciples from every corner of the globe, across all backgrounds and nationalities.
Translated his books into 80+ languages, distributing millions of copies through the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT).
Introduced the chanting of the Hare Krishna Maha-Mantra to the West, transforming countless lives.

Nandgram Dham is a dedicated Vaishnava initiative committed to preserving, studying, and spreading the teachings of our great Acharyas — the self-realised masters in the line of disciplic succession (parampara) — with special emphasis on the monumental contribution of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
Rooted in the philosophy of Suddha Bhakti (pure devotional service) as taught by Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu and transmitted through the Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya Vaishnava sampradaya, Nandgram Dham seeks to bring the nectar of Krishna consciousness to every home, in every language, through every medium available.
The Prabhupada Legacy Academy was established as the educational arm of this initiative — a living digital ashram where seekers from around the world can systematically study the scriptures, learn Sanskrit, engage in kirtan studies, and deepen their understanding of Vedic culture and philosophy under the guidance of trained and devoted teachers.
